Client: Smirnoff - Times Mirror
Agency: Rudnick & Miano
Description: Photo-illustration for Smirnoff sweepstakes ad
Software: Photoshop, Live Picture and Illustrator
Production Notes: Our design staff created this successful campaign for Smirnoff. Smirnoff provided an 8"x10" transparency of their bottle. After our photo shoot, I chose the chromes for the ad and scanned them on the ICG 350i drum scanner. Three 8"x10" transparencies were needed to cover the whole scene. The pitcher was a stock photograph. I positioned the large background scans in Live Picture using a scanned layout as a guide. I worked on the interior of the bottle in a separate Photoshop file and merged all the elements after much of the retouching was finished.
The most challenging part of this job was completing the netting and the landscape. Because the netting in the chromes would not match, I had to draw the netting in illustrator. The knots were created using a blur and thresholding in Photoshop. The home plate was created in Bryce and retouched in Photoshop.
After client approval, I imported the file into our Quark document and prepped the files for film output. I ran the film, and produced a Pressmatch contract proof. The ads were placed in many magazines, so I had to create a large bleed so the art could be repositioned in many sizes.
