Client: Mony Insurance Company

Description: Retouched photo-illustration for brochure

Software: Photoshop, Dimensions and Illustrator

Production Notes: This art was constructed from the clients comp. The challenging part was the ticker tape. The client wanted to read the stock prices on the tape so using a 3D program for mapping wouldn't work well because the resolution had to be very high to read five-point type.

I solved the problem by starting with Adobe Illustrator and Dimensions, both vector programs. I scanned in the layout and placed it into Illustrator. I used it as a guide for drawing one side of the ribbon. I copied and pasted the finished line in front of itself and connected the ends.

In Dimensions, I imported this file and extruded the line, creating a ribbon. I set the camera to the appropriate setting and rendered a simple grayscale image.

Then I imported the file into Photoshop. I cut and pasted a hi-resolution scan of the stock prices from the Wall Street Journal, distorting and multiplying the type over the tape. After constructing the tape, I added the photos and 3D type.

This project was planned very carefully with the help of Trylon Printers. In our initial meetings we discussed the use of various papers and special inks. This process job had a metallic gold fifth color, and the cover was embossed and foil stamped.
