Client: Nestle/Lewis and Partners

Description: 3D photo-illustration for advertisement

Software: Bryce, Photoshop and Illustrator

Production Notes: This gold logo was created using Bryce and Photoshop. The sky was a supplied CMYK scan. I created rays of light using a gradient mask in Photoshop. The specular highlights were airbrushed by hand.

The client wanted a lens flare over the whole image. This is tricky because you can only produce a lens flare in RGB mode in Photoshop. That means you have to switch from CMYK to RGB mode to apply the filter. This creates a color shift when you switch back to CMYK again. To get around the problem, I made a copy of the original file, switched it to RGB and applied the lens flare over the image. I then made a new black layer and reapplied the lens filter to that. I switched to the RED channel and copied that channel to the original CMYK file. In the original CMYK file I was able to apply the new mask over the whole image using a separate layer. From there I could control the color without destroying the original CMYK data.
